Carillion exits RBS contract two years early

Facilities management giant Carillion has quit its support services contract with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) two years early.

The contract, won in 2014 for a five-year period, provided maintenance, repairs and operation services to the RBS estate, estimated at 1.5 million-square metres, including offices, bank branches and cash and coin centres throughout the UK.

Carillion was also in the process of enhancing RBS customer experience by implementing a target-based operating model protecting the bank from operational risk, creating greater flexibility in service delivery and a more efficient use of energy.

However, a spokesperson for Carillion confirmed that the deal had now ended with the company withdrawing from the contract.

“Carillion has jointly agreed with RBS a managed exit from the contract. This has now been carried out on mutually acceptable terms. A number of people have TUPE’d to the new provider as a result of this agreement,” said the spokesperson.

The news comes after a series of positive contract wins for the company, as it looks to bounce back from City expectations of a 35% earnings slump in 2017 and an 11% slide in 2018.

Facilities Management

Facilities Management market set to reach $1,887 billion by 2024

The bundling of FM services by suppliers is driving significant growth in the sector, according to new research from TMR.

Its new report predicts that the global FM market is set to rise at a 13.6% CAGR to reach $1,887 billion by 2024, up from $606.4 billion in 2015.

TMR says an increasing number of companies have been providing bundled FM services – a combination of soft and hard offerings – in order to improve the efficiency of business processes and deliver quality and valued services to their clients.

The report cites several companies in the UK, including 14forty FM Support Services and G4S plc, that have been bundling security, cleaning, reception, food & hospitality and workplace management.

On the other hand, the report points out that single-point delivery services have successfully helped improve services and brought down overall cost.

Companies have also found that total FM services provide central control to the entire facilities management operation and minimise complexities in delivery.

Overall, more companies are aiming toward a reduction in maintenance and operation costs, which means facilities management has emerged as the ideal solution for firms in the short, medium, and long term.

The report asserts that FM services have been supporting companies in reducing capital expenditure and increasing investments in primary services, a goal which it says most organisations strive for.

Energy consumption is also a now a major consideration for firms when choosing their FM partners – as such, by developing an integrated design for business operations, FM services are now in high demand from companies seeking to curb their energy usage.

The new contract – which was won as part of a competitive tender – is worth approximately £2 million, and will see ABM UK supplying the Savills-managed shopping centre with cleaning and security services.

Adam Baker, ABM UK’s business development and marketing director, commented: “We are thrilled to have been appointed by Victoria Place Shopping Centre. The contract win is testament to ABM UK’s understanding of Victoria Place and its prominent position adjacent to the UK’s second-busiest railway station. Victoria Place Shopping Centre is situated adjacent to London Victoria Railway Station in the City of Westminster, and is home to a wide range of retail, restaurants, coffee shops and convenience food outlets. The Shopping Centre was opened in 1985, and underwent a major refurbishment in 2014.

Alex Clark, Centre Manager of Victoria Place Shopping Centre, said: “It’s exciting to be working in partnership with an experienced industry service partner, which is able to provide soft service solutions and meet Victoria Place Shopping Centre’s demands. The principal factors in determining and underpinning the success of a shopping centre is balancing operational management with customer experience. Experience, understanding and innovation are all essential components of effective service delivery. E3 Global announces Energy Eye

E3 Global has added Energy Eye, a powerful software package that provides a dynamic view of a buildings energy performance to the company’s portfolio of energy saving products.

Suitable for any size of surveying operation, Energy Eye provides an exact and up-to-date picture of a buildings energy consumption and carbon emissions, allowing building owners the impact of their energy saving strategies.

Available in two tiers, gold and platinum, Energy Eye software enables surveyors and contractors alike to make detailed surveys of building and energy consuming assets whilst walking through the site survey, then to calculate and clearly display the relevant data.

This allows the identification of issues, classification and scheduling of work required, even down to labour and parts costs, with the ability to export data to other applications. This information can then be uploaded, including survey results, building plans and photos to the central Energy Eye system.

Using Energy Eye, building operators can cover many different types of energy efficiency on site, including building structure, lighting, electrical power and appliances, HVAC, IT, Comms and solar generation.

Energy Eye Gold is an entry level version allowing a wide range of surveys to be carried out, collected data displayed, stored and manipulated, as well as proposals drawn up and project elements calculated. Energy Eye Platinum has all the features of Energy Eye Gold, but in addition takes the imported survey information and allows for the production of energy efficient improvements based upon the existing facilities.

Using Energy Eye reduces surveying time by around 50 percent and therefore increases the number of surveys that can be undertaken in a day.
